Parkhill’s story is an inspirational tale of vision, dedication and triumph against adversity! Almost two decades after Parkhill was formed, our Chief Executive, Ivan Doncaster, is still at the helm.
Back in the very early 90’s there were many in-house audit teams working away to provide internal audit services to NHS organisations. These small organisations struggled to compete against corporate firms. In order to avoid staff losses and create career structures for professional internal auditors, a decision was taken to merge Parkside and Hillingdon Health Authority’s in-house audit teams to create one organisation.
Staff from the newly combined teams were invited to enter a competition to come up with a name for the new organisation. The winning name was “Parkhill” and the winner received a £50 book voucher! Parkhill was born.
Hillingdon Health Authority was Parkhill’s first host organisation. In 1998 they re-evaluated their objectives and decided that internal audit was not a core function for a Health Authority, so they put us up for sale. At that time Parkhill was advertised in the Health Service Journal for £1 ono! Not surprisingly, Parkhill’s clients were unhappy that their internal audit service was being advertised in this way and several of them grouped together to form the Consortium Board, with its inaugural meeting taking place on 1st April 1999.
Parkhill’s first priority was to increase the quality of the staff skills mix as there was only one qualified accountant when the organisation began… we now have over 145 employees with approximately 70% of client facing staff holding a relevant professional qualification.
Parkhill’s focus has always been to meet and exceed client expectations, and this is demonstrated by our high levels of repeat business. Some of our very first clients are with us to this day. We have responded to our customer's changing needs over the years by adding many more services which complement our original core audit business.
Parkhill’s goal is to support our clients to achieve excellence and to provide high quality, cost effective services that contribute to the long term success of the NHS and public sector.
